Music, teaching and performing
I studied music at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, Los Angeles. My teaching background includes private lessons, local primary and secondary schools, after-school clubs and youth groups. That experience helps me adapt an explanation to the person in front of me.
My musical background also includes playing in original bands and the wedding band Cousin Matthew. Performing with other musicians brings together preparation, listening and keeping time—the same skills we can develop in lessons.
More than guitar
I teach guitar, drums, bass and ukulele. I also play piano and cello, but do not teach them. Exploring different instruments helps me explain rhythm, harmony and how parts fit together.
A comfortable start
You do not need to arrive with a polished performance. Bring your questions, tell me about any previous experience and let me know what you would like to play. Parents are welcome to ask about arrangements for a child before booking.

Teaching and performing
I have more than two decades of teaching experience, including private lessons and work in primary and secondary schools across Teesside. Guitar is my main instrument, and my teaching combines practical playing with timing, technique, listening and musical understanding.
I continue to perform professionally with the wedding and function band Cousin Matthew. Rehearsing, working with other musicians and handling live equipment all inform the practical side of my lessons.
I have organised student band nights and live performance opportunities. For adults who already learn with me, The Guitar Workshop offers a way to develop playing alongside other musicians. Performing is always optional.
My teaching base is Six String Studio, a dedicated space I built in Stockton-on-Tees. You can also visit the Six String Studio YouTube channel.
