Inside Six String Studio

Dave’s dedicated teaching studio in Stockton-on-Tees, welcoming guitar, drum, bass and ukulele learners from Middlesbrough and across Teesside.

I built Six String Studio as a dedicated place for learning and making music. It is a working musician’s space with instruments, amplification and recording equipment ready to use, and room to ask questions, try ideas and make mistakes.

Instruments ready to explore

The studio has more than 20 guitars, alongside basses, ukuleles, drums, piano, keyboards and cello. Having different instruments available helps us explore sounds and how parts fit together. The instruments I teach are guitar, drums, bass and ukulele; I play piano and cello but do not offer lessons in them.

You do not need to rush into buying an instrument before your first lesson. Let me know what you want to learn and we can arrange suitable studio equipment. If you have your own guitar, bringing it is useful because it is the instrument you will practise on at home.

A permanent drum setup

Drum students do not need to transport a kit to lessons. We can work on coordination, timing, grooves, fills and dynamics using the studio equipment, then connect those skills with songs you enjoy. Ask me about a suitable way to practise at home.

Recording as part of learning

The studio has Logic Pro X recording facilities. Where useful, we can record a performance or idea and listen back to timing, tone and dynamics. We can also explore backing tracks, songwriting and how different parts fit together.

This is equipment used during tuition, rather than an advertised public studio-hire service. Recording is optional and we will discuss it before using it in a lesson.

Visiting the studio

Lessons take place on Bishopton Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS19 0SD. The full teaching address is shared when you book. Please discuss directions, access requirements and arrangements for a child before your first visit.

See the general lesson location or ask about lesson availability.
